Ya Layl | یا لیل derives its material from my string quartet Orientalism (2020, rev. 2021). It is based on the main theme which is passed around between the first violin and the viola. Ya Layl | یا لیل gave me the opportunity to explore this music in a solo context.
Ya Layl | یا لیل was premiered on May 1, 2022 by August DuBeau in Mixon Hall at the Cleveland Institute of Music.
Ya Layl | یا لیل was selected as a winner of the 2023 Central Washington University New Music Festival Call for Scores, and will be performed at Central Washington University in October 2023.
